Initial Consultation & Assessment

Our Expertise

Initial Consultation & Assessment

Initial appointments are typically 60 minutes and are designed to help us better understand your child’s strengths, challenges, and communication needs, particularly in enhancing children's communication skills.

A comprehensive background and case history will be gathered, including discussions about your child’s development, communication, learning, and participation across home, school, or childcare environments. Case history discussions may take place during the initial appointment or separately via phone call where preferred.

Initial sessions may include:

- play-based observation

- informal assessment activities

- speech, language, and literacy screening

- phonological awareness and early reading skills

- discussion around communication, participation, and learning

For some children, more formal or standardized assessments may be recommended as part of a follow-up session, depending on their age, needs, and presentation. Our expert speech therapy services ensure that we tailor our approach to each child's unique requirements.

Following assessment, recommendations and therapy goals will be discussed collaboratively with families. Together, we will develop an individualized therapy plan that focuses on enhancing your child’s strengths, needs, and goals, ultimately improving their speech therapy outcomes.

Therapy and Intervention

Therapy goals are individualized and developed collaboratively with families, focusing on each child’s strengths, needs, and learning profile to enhance children's communication skills.

Sessions are engaging and evidence-based, designed to support meaningful progress in communication, literacy, and learning. Expert speech therapy services may concentrate on areas such as speech, language, literacy, phonological awareness, phonics, reading development, social communication, or building confidence in everyday communication.

Families are encouraged to be actively involved in the therapy process, and practical strategies are provided to support skill development across home and school environments.

The frequency of therapy and supports are tailored to each child’s individual needs and goals, with regular reviews to ensure that the speech therapy continues to target areas of priority.

School & Childcare Collaboration

Collaboration with educators and support teams is an important part of supporting children's communication and learning. Where appropriate, this may include communication with teachers, classroom or childcare observations, participation in stakeholder meetings, and practical strategies to support children across home, school and early learning environments. School and childcare visits are available when they will benefit your child's assessment, therapy or participation.
